Gulf Photo Plus is pleased to announce an open call for the 2019 Community Exhibition, accepting submissions from all formats, cameras, and photographers of any background.

This year, we are encouraging our community to return to the streets of the Middle-East and North Africa, for the second installment in The Arab Street anthology.

Street photography is a genre that is as broad as it is classical, and features any type of subject or lack thereof, in almost any public space. While street photography is comparably new to the region and is restricted by legislation around imagery, there is still a resourceful and inventive approach taken by many practitioners looking for their decisive moment.

We invite photographers of all skill levels to capture images of our streets, the people they carry, the public places they access ⏤ by manipulating framing, light and shadow, and employing juxtaposition and wit.

Submissions are open and the deadline to submit your images is Aug 30, 11:59PM Dubai time. There is no fee for entry and you can submit up to 3 photos. Entrants will be informed if they were selected by September 5, and the opening will take place at 7PM on September 18 at Gulf Photo Plus in Alserkal Avenue.

Want to familiarize yourself with the kind of work that GPP has exhibited in the past? Refresh your memory with the online gallery of our 2018 community exhibition: No Place Like Home, and make sure to check out the first installment in this exhibition series, The Arab Street (2017-2018).

This exhibition is brought to you in partnership with FujiFilm Middle East, who continue to support the street photography movement with their street-friendly cameras, available to test via the GPP FujiFilm Loan Program.

We’re looking for the unusual street photograph. Regardless of camera, or format, or situation - we’re looking for witty, insightful, clever images.

The only technical limitation is that it has to have been taken in the Middle-East or North Africa.
You will only be able to use the submission form once, so you must have everything prepared at the time of submission. You can submit up to three images, each with a caption, but they must be submitted all at once.
Yes, for every image you submit to the open call, you must also include a caption (100 words or less), including the location the image was photographed and the year it was captured.
Yes, you are welcome to create or edit your image, as we are not applying strict rules on digital manipulation.
We will be emailing everyone that submitted by September 5 to let them know if they were selected or not.
It’s free to submit your work, and if you are selected, participation in the final exhibition is also at no cost to the photographer.
The final deadline to submit your images is Aug 30, 11:59PM (UAE local time).
Image Ownership/Usage/Copyrights

You will maintain 100% copyrights to your image(s) - we are merely displaying it at the exhibition. We will use selected images for press and promotional usage to promote the event.

Printing of Image

The images will all be printed at the GPP printing studio - we have experience and expertise in getting the best print out of a digital file. We will be happy to provide the print as-is at the end of the exhibition to the artists. Artists will have to collect the images themselves within two weeks of the end of the exhibition, and we will not ship or deliver the prints either locally or internationally.
