An Almanac of Return, is a monograph and travel journal written by Nahla Tabbaa and edited by Augustine Paredes, emerging from Tabbaa’s solo exhibition Saad Al Khabaya: The Land Suddenly Pierces. Developed through four expeditions across Jordan during the winter and early spring of 2026, the work and writing unfolds alongside the Saads, the microseasons of Bilad Al Sham that symbolize rupture, survival, and emergence. Rooted in Saad al-Khabaya, the moment when the land pierces itself open to welcome light, flowers, rain, and sun, the project follows the landscape as it cracks, blooms, and speaks. Tracing intimate encounters with the more-than-human world through themes of love, grief, violence, and repair, An Almanac of Return brings together animals, plants, the cosmos, and shifting terrains to share a practice and a life shaped by return, rupture, and transformation. The publication offers a rare glimpse into landscapes that hold painful and beautiful memories and the stories they continue to tell.
