SUDAN. Jebel Awlia, 2017. Fishermen on the White Nile River at Jebel Awlia Dam, Khartoum, Sudan, 2017.
This photo was taken during my first visit to the Jebel Awlia Dam, situated 44 km south of Khartoum. The area’s picturesque landscape attracted many seeking a respite from the city's congestion and the lack of green spaces.
Today, the ongoing conflict has displaced most Khartoum residents, turning this once peaceful spot into a battlefield between the army and the Rapid Support Forces. Part of the bridge that once connected the riverbanks has been destroyed by shelling in the fierce battles. This image now serves as a stark reminder of the stark contrasts between peace and conflict.
