Majd Arandas
Majd Arandas (1994–2023) was a self-taught Palestinian photographer from the Nuseirat refugee camp in the Gaza Strip. He graduated from Al Aqsa University in 2016 and worked in communications and media at the Palestinian Al-Azhar Institute from 2022. Arandas also trained as a news editor at the Sawa News Agency, and worked at the local newspaper Al-Nidaa, while volunteering for organizations such as Save the Children and the Palestinian Red Crescent Society.
His photography captured the resilience and everyday life of Palestinians in Gaza, often portraying scenes of joy, beauty, and normalcy amidst conflict—like children playing by the Mediterranean Sea, his grandmother's dress, or ancient olive trees. Through his photographs, he sought to reveal the enduring spirit of Gaza’s people.
Tragically, on November 1, 2023, at the age of 29, Arandas was killed by an Israeli airstrike near his home in the Deir al-Balah Governorate, while assisting neighbors during a bombing. His death marked the loss of a dedicated artist committed to documenting life and humanity in Gaza.
