DESCRIPTION

Water Towers
South Surra, Kuwait, 1985

These distinctive mushroom-shaped water tanks are elevated structures to support a water tank at a tall height sufficient to pressurize a water supply system for the distribution of potable water, and to provide emergency storage for fire protection. They were also designed to be architectural sculptures. The Swedish engineering firm VBB were commissioned by the Kuwaiti government to design a series of 33 towers; the lead architect being the Swede, Sune Lindström.
