Fine art print sale in support of Palestinian artists — presented by Gulf Photo Plus & Magnum Photos

As we continue to receive devastating news of photographer and artist colleagues being killed in Gaza and enduring the ongoing genocide, we often feel powerless from afar. Yet there are things we can do. First, we can center and amplify their courageous work of reporting and documenting. Second, we can use our global networks to provide material support.

In 2024, after the killing of our friend, Majd Arandas, we launched a print sale that generated just under $80,000 which was distributed equally among 36 Palestinian photographers and artists (learn more here). We know that print sales are not a radical solution, and that they can feel overdone and tokenistic. But at a time when so few avenues exist to channel support directly to Palestinian artists, this remains one of the most effective and accessible tools we have. The Palestine Print Platform has been created to do just that. This inaugural launch is a print sale in collaboration with some of our friends from Magnum Photos. Over time, we hope to grow this initiative to include other formats—zines, books, posters, and more.

Throughout this genocide, and long before it, Palestinian artists have been documenting, creating, and resisting with extraordinary courage. Their work is essential, and it must be supported, shared, and centered.

Why we're doing this:

  1. Provide direct material support to Palestinian artists, with proceeds split equally among them.
  2. Introduce and amplify their work, ensuring their voices and stories are seen and heard.

Why a print sale?

If our primary goal was to ensure the delivery of basic necessities, which are in urgent need, a print sale would not be an efficient way to go about this. But this is not a charity drive for humanitarian relief — this is an artwork sale.

Within the regional visual community, we have an unfortunately ever-dwindling resource of image-makers forging narratives from within the actively besieged areas of Palestine. Our focus is to directly support our colleagues currently working under unimaginable conditions, bearing witness to unspeakable atrocities with their cameras.

With the blessing of the Palestinian contributors in this collection, we hope to ease the burden carried by these artists, and propel their work as wide, and as far, as we can.

What will I receive?

  • 10 X 15" / 24.5cm X 38.1cm fine art archival print on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Bright White (310gsm) — printed either in landscape or portrait orientation
  • Each printed image is presented in the original aspect ratio without any cropping — Please view each image preview carefully to see a preview of the final artwork size.
  • We are not offering these with any add-on frames from our custom framing service, to keep costs low. However, this print size is very common, and your local IKEA or homeware store will carry frames that fit prints of this size.
  • Each print will be packaged simply — using secure yet inexpensive materials, to minimize cost and maximize proceeds.

Why we're working with Magnum:

Our friends and colleagues, some of the members of renowned photo agency Magnum Photos, reached out to us to see how they could support and we worked to launch this print sale that would include prints by Magnum photographers alongside their Palestinian counterparts, to help expand the reach of the print sale.

To be clear, they will not be receiving any funds from the sales. They have also published a piece on the Magnum website with a Q&A with Gaza photographers and some of their members that you can read here.

Where does the money go?

The profits of each print sold will be tallied up, and divided equally amongst the Palestinian artists featured in this sale. If you're based outside of the UAE, AED472.00 will be forwarded. If you're based in the UAE, AED447.00 will be forwarded, after VAT.

Prints are available for AED495.00 ($134.77). Here are the costs:

  • Printing and packaging: AED23.00 / $6.26
  • 5% VAT: AED25.00 / $6.81 (not applicable on orders shipped outside of the UAE)
  • Shipping: paid additionally by you, the buyer, and goes directly to the shipping company — no profits are generated from this.
  • Transfer fees: this cost depends on the recipients choice of transfer method, but this will be covered by the facilitating parties, and will not impact the final profit value

Gulf Photo Plus has been selling artwork by regional photographers since 2013, sharing profits equally. For this sale, all profits will be distributed equally to the Palestinian image-makers featured in this sale — how they use these funds is then wholly at their discretion.
