Urmia Lake in the north of Iran, which was once the largest lake in the Middle East second largest salt lake on the planet. Lake has lost about 88 percent of its surface area during the past three decades due to water mismanagement after the Iran-Iraq war and climatic changes. A pump used to move water from deeper places to the shallow beachside for people to swim. It no longer works because the deep parts have also begun to dry.
