Olympus Superzoom 70 AF

Olympus's everyday 90s zoom compact.

The Superzoom 70 AF is exactly what its name says — a zoom compact with a 38–70mm autofocus lens, programmed AE, DX-coded film loading, and a built-in flash. Olympus made these by the millions through the 90s as the family camera you'd take on holiday and not worry about.

What it gives you in 2026: a small, light, all-auto film camera with real Olympus optics. Wide enough at 38mm for a group photo, long enough at 70mm for a portrait, fast enough at f/4.5 to use indoors with ISO 400. The kind of camera you can hand to anyone.

Character

What it feels like to shoot

Light, plastic, but the lens and shutter feel tighter than budget compacts of the same era. Wakes from sleep quickly. Autofocus is positive. The wide end is where the lens is happiest; the long end at small apertures needs daylight.

Born 1990

History of the Olympus Superzoom 70 AF

Part of Olympus's late-80s/early-90s Superzoom family. The 70 model sat in the budget tier; Olympus made longer-zoom (105, 110, 120, 160) variants alongside it.
