The AF-1 Twin solved the 80s-compact problem of 'one focal length isn't enough' before the zoom compact era arrived. Two lenses in one body — 35mm f/3.5 for everyday wide and 70mm f/6.7 for portraits and reach — switched by a button on the back. Active-IR autofocus, programmed AE, DX-coded film loading, AA batteries.

The case is rubber-sealed against rain and splash, which made these popular with hikers and boat-folk through the late 80s. It's not a serious camera in the F3 sense, but it's a serious answer to the question 'what do I take when I don't want to think about the camera?'

What it feels like to shoot

Heavier than its size suggests because of the rubber sealing. The lens-switch button is on the back where your right thumb naturally rests. AA batteries are a feature, not a bug — replaceable anywhere in the world. The wide setting is the one you'll use 80% of the time.

Released in 1986 as the twin-focal-length follow-up to Olympus's AF-1 (1986) — the first weatherproof autofocus compact. The AF-1 Twin added the second 70mm element while keeping the weather sealing.
