OPEN CALL: Warehouse421 x GPP Photography Mentorship Programme

FROM CAMERA TO GALLERY

Calling all photographers and videographers! GPP is proud to announce we are partnering with Warehouse421 in Abu Dhabi to offer an exciting open-call opportunity for emerging artists in the UAE. 10 successful applicants will participate in a comprehensive development programme, guiding them through conceptualising and executing an image-based project rooted in Mina Zayed, culminating in an exhibition at Warehouse421 in early June. Beginning in February, the programme will feature presentations, photo walks, workshops and critiques, helping candidates to nurture their projects from idea to gallery, producing a cohesive body of work and preparing it for installation.

WHAT’S INVOLVED

GPP and Warehouse421 will support successful candidates through workshops, presentations, photo walks and critiques, giving you the tools to bring your ideas to life. The programme is open to all modes and formats of shooting, whether you shoot black and white 120 film or 4K video with your iPhone. Teaching sessions will take place on Saturdays, with transportation provided between Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and you will be given time to work on your own in between group meetings. We are not able to provide any equipment, but can provide advice on where to get your hands on some if necessary.

WHAT IS MINA ZAYED?

Mina Zayed, or Port Zayed, the home of Warehouse421, is located at the north-eastern tip of the island of Abu Dhabi. It is an area steeped in history, undergoing several phases of land reclamation since it was first developed in the 1960s, which have drastically increased its size. Asides from the port itself, the area is home to markets for fruit and vegetables, dates, carpets and household items, as well as a dhow shipyard and thriving fish market with restaurants and secret shisha cafes. The area is largely undocumented, and contains a rich wealth of stories waiting to be told.
