May 8th is GPP Movie Night!
Register here to join us for a FREE screening Bill Cunningham New York by Richard Press, 7pm May 8th in the GPP space, Alserkal Avenue.
Released in 2010, Bill Cunningham New York uncovers the everyday life of a photographer eccentric in his unwavering passion for his work, documenting fashion on the streets for the New York Times. For decades Cunningham, now 80+ years old, has rode his bicycle from every posh event to grand gala, rain or shine, capturing what he intuitively picks up on as new trends. With a long history in the fashion industry Cunningham knows all and sees all in the world of fashion, but without bias he shoots what he believes is creative, innovative, and "wearable" on the street.
“We all get dressed for Bill,” says American Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. Wintour, Tom Wolfe, Brooke Astor, and David Rockefeller are a few members of New York fashion royalty featured in the film, expressing their love for Cunningham.
A dedicated artist he prioritizes nothing above his photographic pursuit, living in a small overflowing apartment full floor to ceiling with photographs and negatives. His sincere devotion to his craft is entirely inspiring, and his compassion and modesty undeniable humbling.
