GPP Slidefest & Market Day!

In our blog post about Photo Week, we promised you a host of community events and activations. Here it is⏤join us on Saturday, February 29th for a day dedicated to photography!

Buy & sell camera gear at GPP Market Day, get inspired and interact with regional photographers presenting their work at GPP Slidefest, and meet likeminded photographers while enjoying the music and food activations in The Yard.

 

 

GPP MARKET DAY

4-6PM at Warehouse 46, Alserkal Avenue

 

If you have old or unused photography gear taking up space, or if you’re in need of some equipment and looking for some great deals and steals—sell your unwanted photo gear and get your hands on some bargains at GPP Market Day!

 

At Market Day you can directly meet the seller, try before you buy and negotiate a cost face-to-face. It’s a great place to meet new people and find a shooting buddy for your next adventure.

 

Market Day Sellers:

  • Doors open at 3:45pm
  • We have limited table space and will be issued on a first come, first served bases. 
  • Sharing is caring - You may be ask to share your table space with your neighbours. 
  • Please bring sticky labels and pens to price up your items.
  • This is a community event to please tidy up after yourself  :)
  • Top tip: You will need to bring change for your buyers.

  • GPP cannot accept any responsbility for any items you buy on the day, this is between you and the seller, so get their number just in case!

*Please note that Market Day is for individual sellers only and GPP is geared to maintaining Market Day as a community event. For this reason, companies, commericial entities or photography-goods businesses are not permitted to sell or promote at Market Day. 

 

GPP SLIDEFEST

630pm-8PM at The Yard, Alserkal Avenue

Slidefest: Counternarratives, an opportunity for established and upcoming photographers from the region to present their work in front of a live audience, and engage with the viewers. This grouping of projects focuses on work deemed contrary to the popular portrayal of a range of subjects and themes. This edition of Slidefest will take place in The Yard in Alserkal Avenue, there will be a DJ and Project Chaiwala with food, chai and other beverages.

Collective Wedding
Huda Abdulmughni

Huda will share a portrait project of Yemeni bridegrooms whom she photographed when they got married in 2012 with updates about the stories of their lives in the current moment.

 

Practical Dreams
Yulia Piskuliska

Practical Dreams is an experimental documentary which examines the existential outlook on life of Antony, a long-time UAE resident who builds houses for a living but is at a loss when it comes to explaining what home really means to him.

 

Bombay Ballroom
Munsif Molu

Munsif’s fabulous portrait series of Indian Drag queens who performed in the first runway show as part of the India Makeup Show in 2019.

 

Everyday Iraq
Abdullah Dhiaa Al-Deen and Amir Hazim

Abdullah and Amir will present a series of images of Iraqi photographers who have been documenting everyday life across Iraq which gives us a glimpse of the Iraq that is often excluded from the mainstream.

 

UFO Dreams
Mehreen Murtaza
Artist Mehreen Murtaza will share work from her publication UFO Dreams that was part of an Alserkal commission and where she presented findings and interpretations from UFO sightings in Dubai.

 

Stadiumphilia

Fethi Sahraoui

In this project, Fethi explores the youth who turn to football for a way to escape the harsh realities of life in Algeria and how the movements that started in stadiums have been making their way into society at large in Algeria.

 

That Photograph
Lana Haroun

Lana will share her story about that image. That image that went viral and will take its place in history.
