Ramadan Photo Walk | Karama: Suhoor Stroll

Although suhoor refers to the dawn and thus, the pre-dawn meal during Ramadan, here in the UAE, suhoor has come to refer to post-iftar late night activities that both observant Muslims and non-Muslim expats alike partake in during the holy month. While breaking the fast is a sacred moment, ending the day's strenuous obligation, suhoor allows one to relax and enjoy the celebratory spirit of Ramadan, through anything from playing board games to shopping to drinking chai.

If you're keen to experience suhoor first-hand, join Gulf Photo Plus on one of our Suhoor Strolls in Karama, a neighborhood full of delectable bites and fairy lights. Whether you're shooting on your mobile phone or your camera, your guide will set you up with the night photography tips you need to capture crisp images that tell a story of Ramadan. You'll also be able to up your portraiture game, as we've scouted the best locations where the artificial colored lights of Karama storefronts spill out onto the streets for the perfect night portrait. After our stroll, which will include a special tandoori chai stop, lessons of local history, and exploration of hidden gems, we'll finish our evening at a local restaurant* where you'll have an image review with your guide, get feedback on your photographs, and share your best shots with the group.

*While snacks will be included, dinner will be optional and is therefore not included in the price. We're conscious that some participants may be joining us after iftar and may be likely to have the appetite for a second large meal in the same evening.

Can I pay for my workshop on the first day of class?
Payment must be made prior to the start of your workshop in order to guarantee you a spot in the workshop. You can book your workshop on our website or pass by GPP in person during our regular working hours so we can help you process payment and get booked in.

Can I get a certificate for my workshop?
We are not an accredited institution, so we do not issue degrees or certifications like those awarded by universities. However, we are happy to prepare you a custom certificate of completion for any workshop that you take with us. Send us an email at least 3 days before the start of your workshop, and we’ll have your certificate ready and waiting for you to collect at the end of your class.

Can I take a workshop if I don't have my own camera?
Sure thing! If you don’t have your own DSLR or mirrorless camera, we have a limited number of loan cameras available that you can borrow (free of charge!) during your Photography Level 1, Photography Level 2, or Introduction to Video workshop. All you need to bring is your own SD card.

To request to borrow a loan camera for your workshop, email us at least 36 hours in advance of your workshop with the subject line "Help! I Need a Camera!”; please include your workshop dates and order confirmation number in the email. Please note that we have a limited number of loan cameras available, and the program works on a first-come, first-served basis.
