Sadegh Tirafkan 06-11

Gallery Etemad presents a new exhibition by renowned Iranian artist, Sadegh Tirafkan,  illustrating the artist’s oeuvre through the years 2006 to 2010 and features four series of works, interrelated by history, identity, socio-political, religious and gender issues.  Tirafkan's work manifests in the form of photomontage as well as installation, exploring themes such as the impact of current global cuts in government spending on education and cultural activities, in contrast to the increasing invasion of western pop culture and mass satellite media throughout the Middle East.  These works observe and amalgamate historical calligraphic and carpet motifs with superimposed portraits-on-prints, underlining the observation of a homogeneous global youth culture, cut off form the culture of the past.
