Work | An Exhibition of Photographs by David Alan Harvey

Exhibition is open between 10am-4pm during the GPP event (March 1-9,2013) 

Opening night February 28 at 7:30pm, not to be missed!  Open to the public, the exhibition will be hosted in the GPP gallery space in Alserkal Avenue, kicking off the GPP 2013 March event.

Within the exhibition selected pictures from his recent award winning limited edition book (based on a true story) depict the vibrancy and cultural energy of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Raw, sensual, fresh, real, and passionate, these photographs reflect a broad demographic spectrum, offering a peek into the lives of the rich, the glamorous, the poor, the humble and the everyday.
Harvey also shares iconic photographs from Divided Soul and his new limited edition series, resulting in a powerful survey of his Work.
While Harvey bears witness he does not seek to explain. “My love for the sublime supersedes any desire to tell it all in pictures. I photograph the "truth", yet I always want the purveyors of my work to ponder a bit.”

Work opens on February 28th at Gulf Photo Plus in Alserkal Avenue, kicking off GPP 2013, where Harvey alongside 12 additional, exceptionally talented photographers, will instruct inspirational workshops, seminars and events sharing their knowledge and passion for photography.

The exhibition is supported by Leica Camera AG and their local UAE partner, Salam Studio & Stores LLC.

About David Alan Harvey

Harvey's groundbreaking limited edition book (based on a true story) '"sets a new standard for the photo book. Extraordinary photography and book design from one of the best in game" according to Teju Cole in his review for The New Yorker.  Harvey also won the 2012 Lucie Award for Book Publisher of the year for BurnBooks, his publishing house specializing in limited edition art books. 

He has been a member of Magnum Photos since 1993, and is the founder of Burn Magazine, an award-winning and grant giving online and in print journal for emerging photographers.

David's work has been exhibited at the Bibliotèque Nationale de France, the MOMA, the Corcoran Museum, the VA Museum of Fine Arts, and at the ACP in Sydney. His stories from all around the world have been published on the pages of numerous publications, and he has contributed over 40 feature stories to NatGeo alone.
