This intensive workshop delves into the skills, both technical and interpersonal, that make a successful newborn photoshoot, perfect for parents-to-be and those wishing to add newborn photography into their portfolio.

What's Covered

Documenting those precious first few weeks of life is a beautiful endeavor, and one that demands a great deal of care and specialization by the photographer. Participants will receive in-depth theory lessons before moving on to a live demonstration with a newborn model, as you learn everything from swaddling to lighting, as well as building trust with parents. You’ll learn how to safely wrap newborns while creatively using props and styling to create unique images for families to cherish. When lighting a newborn subject, you’ll need to know essential health and safety guidelines, as well as the techniques that best highlight the soft and delicate nature of newborns. The workshop will end with a post-processing demonstration, and you'll also receive a video from your instructor, covering image-editing best practices, so you can always access these lessons in future shoots. At the end of the workshop, you will leave feeling confident in your ability to create beloved photographs that due to justice to this beloved moment. 

 

This workshop has a maximum number of 6 students to maintain an intimate experience for students and babies.

 

This workshop will cover:

 

  • Photography session planning and workflow 
  • Health and safety when working with babies, photography gear and environments 
  • Communicating with parents and siblings 
  • Newborn settling techniques and adapting to unplanned situations 
  • Creative wrapping and posing with a variety of props and backgrounds 
  • Working with studio lights and camera gear 
  • Framing, composition and post-processing in Lightroom and Photoshop
 

Please note:

  • Shooting time may be limited to ensure the comfort and safety of our newborn models. 
  • All images taken during the workshop must not be shared online without the express, written permission of the model’s parents. 
  • We may ask that you share your images with the parents of the newborns as a "thank you."
  • We'll need to maintain a warm environment to ensure the comfort of the newborn models, so we recommend wearing loose clothing. 
  • For health and safety reasons, students will not be allowed to touch the newborn models.

who should attend

Photography: Suitable for those who have a solid foundation in photography. You must have a thorough understanding of ISO, aperture, shutter speed, and hands-on experience shooting in manual modes, or have taken the equivalent of our Photography Level 1 and Photography Level 2 workshops prior to attending. We reserve the right to turn away any attendee who does not possess the required skill level for this workshop.

 

Editing & Studio Lighting: Whilst not a prerequisite, students who have attended our Introduction to Studio Lighting, Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop workshops will be equipped to benefit from this workshop, as we will be working with studio lights and observing a live editing demonstration.

Cancellation Policy
  • If cancelled 7 days prior to the start of your workshop, you will be issued a 90% refund or may be rescheduled to another date(s).
  • If cancelled a minimum of 3 days (72 hours) prior to the start of your workshop, no refund is possible, but you may be rescheduled to another workshop date(s).
  • If cancelled less than 3 days (72 hours) in advance of your workshop, no refund and no reschedule is possible.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

  • GPP reserves the right to change the location of any workshop to another location within the same city and/or emirate as deemed needful in accordance with management discretion.
  • Workshops can be rescheduled within 3 months of the originally booked workshop date(s).
  • Bookings can only be transferred ONCE, including in the event of a workshop relocation. If you transfer your workshop booking and later wish to cancel it, we will unfortunately not be able to refund or reschedule you under any circumstances.
  • You must be 18 or older to attend this workshop. If you are younger than 18 or booking for someone under 18 years of age, please contact us first and we will be happy to advise you.
Please Note: Our classes are open to ANY brand of camera: Canon, Nikon, Sony, Panasonic, Fuji and any other intermediate to advanced cameras (As long as they have manual controls i.e. NOT point-and-shoots) are welcome!
