Tackling Street Photography (Mon-Tues-Sat)

Level: Photography - Confident Beginner

On the one hand, street photography is one of the most accessible and pure forms of photography.
There is just you, your camera, and the urban environment at your doorstep; no need for models, lights, or tripods.

On the other hand, it can be one of the most elusive and challenging forms of photography, forcing you to tango with the constantly shifting conditions on the street. Maciej Dakowicz has practiced street photography everywhere from Japan to Yemen and in between, leading street photography workshops in almost 20 countries. He helps his students improve by breaking street photography down into a precise science, analysing different types of street images so that they can take a measured approach to crafting each image with care, in spite of the unpredictable nature of the street.

This workshop is for the photographer who is committed to improving, so you will jump right in with a shared critique session of your previous work, either street photography or other genres. Maciej will intersperse the discussion by sharing the common pitfalls of street photography and how to avoid them, showing inspirational street work and pointing out what makes a meaningful and dynamic street image.

During both Day 1 and Day 2 of this workshop, you will head out on the vibrant streets of Dubai after your initial presentation and discussion, to incorporate Maciej’s advice into your practice. On the third and final half-day, many of the lessons of the workshop will be drawn together into a critiques session of the pictures you've taken on day 2 and then you'll get involved in an interactive exercise where you will collaboratively critique images that Maciej shares.
