Advanced: Creating Iconic Architectural Images

For those who have previous experience in architectural or advertising photography, this class explores what it takes to bring your images to the next level. When you need to create a breathtaking image for architectural, interiors, or editorial use, this class will explain theory, composition, staging and processing at a high level. The business of architectural photography will also be discussed, for those who are looking to improve their marketing, raise their pricing, and attract new clients. Students should have prior experience with architectural photography and photoshop. Portfolio review is required, or into class in lieu of a portfolio review.

What you should bring

DAY 1 and 2
* You can bring a small camera to document the learning process
* a notebook or laptop to take notes on

DAY 3
* your laptop with a copy of Photoshop CS3 or above (Download a 30 day trial from Adobe here) and Lightroom or a trial version of it (Please click here for a link to the trial).  
* You will be using Canon 5d Mark III files in class, and you need to make sure your computer can open and process these raw files. 

 

Notes

Since we will only be using one camera to teach with, students do not need to bring a camera, but they WILL be supplied with ALL of the raw images that we take in the workshop.

Mike Kelley

Mike has become well known for his architectural and fine art photography, and has worked on projects around the world for clients such as Tesla Motors, Herman Miller, and Swire Pacific. His work has appeared in numerous architectural publications as well as periodicals such as WIRED, the Wall Street Journal, Fast Company, and National Geographic.

Who Should Attend

You are currently at least at the level of shooting in Aperture or Shutter priority modes and can use the basic features on your camera confidently to create a correct exposure.

You have a good general understanding of the essential features of Photoshop or other photo finishing program and can apply basic finishes to your work. You have some understanding of the use of this software and are looking to become more efficient and precise while increasing your repertoire of tools and expand your creative techniques.

This session is limited to 10 students only

Portfolio Review

This class requires a portfolio review. Our sincerest desire is to maintain a consistent level of photographic proficiency for your sake and your fellow participants, therefore this advanced workshop requires a submission of sample images of your work prior to being allowed to book the workshop. We will review your images and respond to you within 1 working day. If we do not feel that your choice is appropriate, we will contact you to discuss alternatives.

PREREQUISITES

To take part in this workshop, you also need to have a good understanding of Photoshop basic tools as the instructor will not be able to give you personal attention if you are not at the right level for this class.
