Light Painting and Compositing for Architectural Photography

Learn the basics of creating compelling architectural photography. Equipment, technique, composition, theory, and post-processing will all be discussed at an easily digestible level for those who are interested in exploring the genre for fun or for business.
After taking this class, students will have a solid foundation upon which to build their skills as an architectural photographer. You'll be able to easily choose great compositions, be able to manage lighting to tackle simple and complex situations, and know how to combine images in photoshop to create the picture that's in your head.

What you should bring

DAY 1 & 2
* You can bring a small camera to document the learning process
* a notebook or laptop to take notes on

DAY 3
* your laptop with a copy of Photoshop CS3 or above (Download a 30 day trial from Adobe here) and Lightroom or a trial version of it (Please click here for a link to the trial).  
* You will be using Canon 5d Mark III files in class, and you need to make sure your computer can open and process these raw files.

About the Instructor
Mike Kelley

Mike has become well known for his architectural and fine art photography, and has worked on projects around the world for clients such as Tesla Motors, Herman Miller, and Swire Pacific. His work has appeared in numerous architectural publications as well as periodicals such as WIRED, the Wall Street Journal, Fast Company, and National Geographic.

You are a very confident user of all the manual shooting modes for exposure control. You want to expand your photography into challenging creative, narrative and conceptual areas.

This session is limited to 10 students only

PREREQUISITES

 

Since we will only be using one camera to teach with, students do not need to bring a camera, but they WILL be supplied with ALL of the raw images that we take in the workshop.

To take part in this workshop, you also need to have a good understanding of Photoshop basic tools as the instructor will not be able to give you personal attention if you are not at the right level for this class.
