FAQ'S

What is GPP2016 DUBAI PHOTO WEEK?

The same thing shooting stars, unicorns, and dark chocolate all are — magic!

GPP2016 DUBAI PHOTO WEEK is more than 40 workshops, seminars and free talks by no less than 14 of the world’s leading photographers, an exhibition, the PhotoFriday event, an 8-day expo with special offers on gear, and last but not least - the Shootout.

The magic begins on February 4th with our SMILE exhibition opening and builds all week to the finale event - the Shootout on February 12th!

Find out exactly what’s happening and when: check out the schedule on our sweeeeeet new website here.

What is the Sony PhotoFriday event?

At GPP2016, we stand by the motto of “go big, or go home.” So naturally, we choose to kick-off the region’s largest photography festival in the most insane way we can think of! This all-day event will feature action packed seminars, talks, live demonstrations and panel discussions by some of the world’s top photographers.

SONY PhotoFriday will be held on February 5th, 2016 and is open to all levels.

There will be a total of 16 ninety-minute sessions spread out over 4 time slots throughout the day. Plus we are running a special where if you buy tickets for three seminars, you get a fourth one free!

Check out the schedule here, and book while there are still seats left!

Can I get a week pass for the event?

There is no week pass for GPP2016. With over 40+ amazing workshops and events happening throughout the week, it is literally impossible to attend everything… unless you have mastered the art of self-cloning, that is!

GPP2016 allows you to tailor your week of photography learning to your interests and skill level. So take a look at the workshops and seminars schedule here to sign up to your chosen events!

Don’t forget to register for the FREE Special Events happening every night at GPP2016. The Special Events schedule will go live soon but if you just can’t wait, check out last year’s events here to get sneak peek of what’s on offer!

How do I sign up and pay for the workshop?

In the olden days, we would have accepted three chickens and the promise of your firstborn child, but we like to keep with the times. So now we have several options:

  • Register on our website. This is required no matter how you pay.

  • Online:To then book online, simply add your workshops to your cart, proceed to checkout, enter your card details as requested, and you’re done! Once your seat is successfully secured, you will receive an immediate confirmation email from us.

  • In-Person: If you don’t have a credit card or don’t want to book online, you can drop by to our space during working hours and pay by cash, check, or credit card.

  • Wire Transfer: Email us what workshops you’re interested in, and we will send you our bank details so you can make a wire transfer payment.

How do I know if a workshop matches my skill level?

An excellent question! Every workshop at GPP2016 has its own detailed listing page, where we have specified the recommended skill and experience level for that particular workshop.

If you are still unsure after reading the breakdown for the workshop you are considering, just give us a call or email us. We’ll be happy to help advise you!

What is the difference between a workshop and a seminar?

Good question! A workshop is an intensive, hands-on session where you will benefit from a small group setting designed to allow for carefully crafted, personalized time with your instructor. Class sizes may be as small as 10 and are never more than 16.

A seminar, on the other hand, is a condensed theoretical session where the instructor covers one of any number of topics including composition, post-production, business management and more. Some seminars may involve live shoots, but attendees won’t use their cameras during a seminar. As a result, they are a time-efficient and affordable way to delve into the theory of a particular subject!

How can I get the Early Bird offer? And how do I claim it? Any discount for groups?

If you book before Dec 26th, 2015, midnight UAE time, you will be entitled to an Early Bird treat, 10% of your workshops value to spend at the GPP Store.
You can claim that discount between January 6th and February 12th 2016, by visiting the GPP store. We will have a record of your booking and your treat value; all you have to do is choose.
Please note that you'll need to redeem the entire treat amount at one go.

If you are a group, photo club or university students association, email us and we'll try and help you the best we can.

I bought my tickets and received an order confirmation. What's next?

Sit tight! Closer to the workshop date, we will send you a reminder email along with any notes from your instructor(s) and a list of instructions regarding what gear to bring.

Where is my workshop taking place?

The Headquarters for GPP2016 is the Dubai Knowledge Village Conference Center. Click here for the map.

If you have signed up for an on-location workshop, you will still need to come to the Knowledge Village Conference Center to register for your workshop. Transportation may be provided for your workshop, but in special cases you will receive detailed instructions about where to meet and how to get there.

I'd like to get a certificate of completion for my workshop. Is that possible?

We love certificates as much as you do! Every workshop student will be handed a certificate of completion personally signed by their workshop instructor at the conclusion of his/her workshop.

Can I gift someone a workshop?

Only if you want them to love you forever.

You can go to the GIFT VOUCHERS page on our website and select a monetary amount for your gift voucher, or you can get in contact with us for advice on which workshop will make the perfect gift for someone special.

I bought one or more workshops. Somethings come up - can I cancel my workshops and get a refund?

Absolutely! We understand that life is busy and always unexpected.

However, please be aware that cancellations and refunds are firmly subject to these conditions:

  • Up to Jan 5, 2016:
    • Exchange: You can exchange your workshop with another GPP2016 workshop subject to availability and it should be the same or a higher value. If the workshop you choose is of a lower value, then you will only be entitled to a cash refund of 70% of the difference.
    • Refund: You can get a cash refund of 70% of the workshop value.
  • After Jan 5, 2016:
    • Sorry, folks ; no refund or exchange after this point.
  • PhotoFriday tickets are non-refundable.
    • They do make a great gift, however. If you find out you can’t attend a session last minute, give your seat to a friend and make their day!
