PARVI(e)S © / SQUARE (S)
The Pompidou Center has been for nearly 40 years, the heart of the French capital city.
Considered today as the one of the emblematic buildings of the 20th century adopted by the Parisians, this building, which has often been compared by its opponents to an oil refinery, was subject to controversy all through the 70's. At the foot of the building lies the Piazza, the square (“the Parvis”), the esplanade, the Place Georges Pompidou altogether covering an area of 11,000 square meters which is equal to two football fields.
Continuously filled by demonstrations, debates, gatherings of street acrobats, and impressive art exhibitions, this agora is a place where people meet, pass by, picnic, rest and play. The space describes our lives. Our ephemeral presence in the city highlights our constant interaction with it, and as a result its complex and yet necessary evolution.
The aim of PARVI(e)S© is to witness one year in the early 21th century and pin it on your walls. The series is conducted around various collections which connect to the seasons. Every collection is based on a 2 hours shooting session.
The liveliness of the Place Georges Pompidou is permanent on every paving stone. The esplanade is full of our coming and goings. Taken individually, little sketches take place, sometimes unnoticed.
The interaction between the light, the shadows, the movements of the pigeons, the omnipresence of the pavement and it's distinguished graphics altogether make out of the Parvis the cornerstone of shooting photographs. Human beings become simple objects passing by, decorating the scenery.
