The Art Of Food Photography

Matt Armendariz | Lighting - Intermediate

While certainly delicious, there's a list of foods that continually present challenges to the camera. In this advanced class, we'll focus on photographing those pesky dishes in detail, while throwing in a few curve balls along the way. Stews, meat, beans, casseroles, soups and ice cream will be covered, as well as photographing food with people. We'll learn how to use props, lighting, mood boards and styling to help us with the foods that pose the most challenges. Students should have a thorough grasp of camera basics and settings and a general comfort level with photography. Bring a tripod!

About the Instructor
Matt Armendariz

Matt Armendariz began his career as an art and creative director in the food world, but it was the photographic process that energized, thrilled, and motivated him enough to trade in the cubicle for a camera.  As a commercial photographer, Matt now explores the world through food for a variety of editorial and advertising clients such as Target, Food Network, Cooking Channel, and Coca Cola, as well as various book publishers and publications. His most recent projects include a year-long food campaign for Target and a cookbook (the 30th that he has photographed) that will be released this year.

Matt is based in Los Angeles, California.
