Showcase gallery invites you to an exhibition about identity. The challenge for these three emerging artists was to reinvent this subject by approaching it from a very focused angle, avoiding the cliche avenues
Having grown up in the U.A.E residents will all feel that it has in a sense shaped their lives. However, saying you are from Dubai is always met with questioning looks and furrowed brows. This exhibition explores the complexities of growing up as an expatriate in a country you call home.
ELEANOR SMITH will be exhibiting her photographic series as part of this group show, and in speaking about her work explained,
"I have always been in Dubai, it is my home and what I love. The only time I have lived elsewhere was whilst studying photography at Leeds College of Art. This photo essay shows the familiar places that are the back drop to my life, the places that haven’t changed, and remain ungilded and unglamorized. "
The show also includes work by Michelle Harvey, Dima Hamati and runds until July 3rd in Showcase gallery, Alserkal Avenue.
