Over $150,000 up for grabs with the Emirates Photography Competition 2011

The sixth Emirates Photography Competition (EPC) is organized under the patronage of International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP) and the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage. The aim is to develop and promote photography in the U.A.E and attract different artistic styles while respecting photographic art standards.

The EPC has a “Main Theme” along with four additional themes that vary every year. This year, the EPC's Main Theme is "BLACK & WHITE THROUGH CREATIVE EYES"

Also, part of the sixth session’s program is to honor the late photographer Noor Ali Rashid - one of the leading figures in UAE photography. A special award named after him will be awarded to the best Emirati photographer of 2011 who highlights UAE cultural and environmental symbols in different themes of the competition.

Deadline: 31st March, 2011

Who can enter: Amateur and professional photographers worldwide. Groups of photographers can also submit photographs.

Is there a specific theme? The Main Theme is Black and White Through Creative Eyes, where you have to capture artistic images in monochrome. The other themes are wildlife, people at work, sport, still life & abstract. Future Image By Future Eyes is a special category for participants between 16 and 21 inviting photographs across all themes.

How many images can you enter: You can enter up to 4 photographs per theme. For the main theme, a portfolio of 6-10 images corresponding to the main theme can be submitted.

Is there a fee to participate? Yes, following are the fees:
Individual participation in the Main Theme: US $ 20 – AED70.
Individual participation in each General Themes: US $ 10 – AED35
Individual participation All themes (Main/General): US$45– AED180.
Participation in the Future Image Theme: US $ 10 – AED 35.Group participation All themes (Main/General): US $ 40– AED 145 (per participant).

What are the prizes? In total, there are over Dhs 200,000 in cash prizes; the breakdown of which is are as follows:

* Grand Prize Winner: Dhs 50,000 + FIAP Gold Medal (Main Theme)

* Main Theme Awards: 1st Prize (20,000 + FIAP Gold Medal)
                                          2nd Prize (15,000 + FIAP Silver Medal)
                                          3rd Prize (10,000 + FIAP Bronze Medal)

* General Theme Awards: 1st Prize (20,000 + FIAP Gold Medal)
                                          2nd Prize (15,000 + FIAP Silver Medal)
                                          3rd Prize (10,000 + FIAP Bronze Medal)

* UAE Talent Awards:  1st Prize (12,000 + FIAP Gold Medal)                                                        2nd Prize (10,000 + FIAP Silver Medal)
                                         3rd Prize (8,000 + FIAP Bronze Medal)

* Emirate Photo Award:    1st Prize (20,000 + FIAP Gold Medal)
                                         2nd Prize (15,000 + FIAP Silver Medal)

* Arab Photo Award: Five FIAP Gold Medals

* Photography Clubs Award: Three Prizes of AED 10,000 + FIAP Gold Medal, Five FIAP Gold Medals.

How do I participate? You can participate by registering on the Emirates Photography Competition website and filling out the application form using the special numerical code provided upon completing the registration process. Participants must submit their photographs digitally on CD or DVD along with their entry fees.
