The Worst Journey in the World

This magnificent set of platinum prints are based on Captain Scott’s Antarctic expedition 1910-1913. The photographs were taken by Herbert Ponting who was recruited as ‘camera artist’ to document the expedition. Over 1700 glass plate negatives were left and the portfolio is divided into five thematic sections: Explorers, Man and Sledge, Terra Nova, Cape Evans and Antarctic Landscapes. This rich collection of photographs show the Antarctic landscape and life of explorers, while capturing portraits reflecting their emotions and survival experiences. These exhibitions of Contemporary African Art Exhbition, showcases inspiring photographs focusing on the works of photographers and their experiences as ‘Afrophiles’ and cultural trailblazers. It also employs video, projections and films to create a multi-sensory experience of Africa. The various installements are: Africa Uploaded, Ancestral Space, Statements of Intent and the main event being As It Is!
